ABOUT ME

Hello, I appreciate your visiting this page. I am a registered psychologist in private practice with over 20 years of counselling experience, working in Calgary, Alberta.

I offer attachment and trauma informed therapy for people ages 11 and older. I work with individuals, couples and families to resolve past trauma, relationship issues, depression, and anxiety. I offer support for those making adjustment to life changes, and support for personal growth for those wanting to live with more aliveness, insight, authenticity, humour, and self-compassion.

I truly love my work. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to engage in work that is so rewarding and moving, together with the people with whom I have the opportunity to connect.

I enjoy providing consultation to therapists, and supervision to Provisional Psychologists engaged in the registration process with the College of Alberta Psychologists. I am co-director of IBP Alberta (Integrative Body Psychotherapy) and am co-teaching the training for therapists in Integrative Body Psychotherapy.

I am pleased to be a perennial learner. I am continually learning through reading, trainings, traveling, and courses. I have attended Bishop's University in Quebec, Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Calgary. I have lived in many places throughout Canada, as well as London, England, both Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, and Taipei, Taiwan. I enjoy living in Calgary, in the foothills of the majestic Rockies, in connection with hiking, snow shoeing, canoeing, my family, and friends. I am grateful to have access to such wonderful places and people.

COVID-19

In the midst of Alberta continuing to manage the Coronavirus, I am a Calgary Psychologist offering in-person or telepsychology by video / computer on a secure video platform. I am also able to offer telephone sessions if this is preferred. I specialize in stress responses, mindfulness, PTSD and trauma resolution, and positive psychology. I help people to manage their anxiety and depression, as these are both unhelpful but common coping mechanisms to external stressors such as COVID-19. I am available to manage grief and loss related to Covid or other losses, process medical trauma, and offer processing and strategies to help work towards reducing and managing symptoms of long-Covid.

As a seasoned couples therapist, I am also offering support to couples who are managing added stress upon their relationship and family, due to differences in coping, financial stress, managing children, working from home, returning to the office, and other stressors.

I am available to support. Please contact me to see if my services might be a fit for your needs.

Therapy Modalities

Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP)

IBP is an energetic and transpersonal model, allowing for an increased sense of connection to wellness and core self.

Learn More

IBP is a body-focused (somatic) approach that allows exploration and healing of early attachment and developmental experiences, which can significantly change our experience of ourselves, and those with whom we have close relationship. Studying and experiencing this model of therapy has created significant change for me both as a therapist and an individual. I have a greater sense of internal resource, tools for navigating and shifting emotional and energetic states, and have noticed profound and lasting changes in the quality of my close relationships. I am co-director of IBP Alberta, with a wonderful colleague, and am co-teaching a 2 year and 3 year IBP Training in Calgary. Our latest cohort began in September 2019. For information about formal IBP Training, please see our IBP Alberta Website at www.bodybreathandsoul.ca.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), attachment focused emdr (af-emdr), and Natural Processing (NP)

EMDR is an effective and efficient modality for many clients and issues.

Learn More

It is a pleasure to witness the type of change that often occurs with EMDR in therapy. EMDR is a well researched and empirically proven model noted for its effectiveness resolving symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and trauma. Attachment Focused EMDR is particularly effective in helping to heal and resolve past experiences of childhood abuse, repeated attachment injuries, and neglect. Natural Processing combines techniques from EMDR with a strong somatic approach which typically leads to powerful recovery from past experiences and significant shifts in the ability to remain present in daily life. An exciting explosion of research continues to grow in the area of EMDR, and it is increasingly being used to address other issues.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

A combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Western Psychotherapy, and Buddhist awareness practices.

Learn More

I am an enthusiastic believer in (and imperfect practitioner of) Mindfulness, or Vipassana, Meditation. Mindfulness increases our capacity to live in the moment, with greater awareness and self-compassion. It allows us increased freedom from states of anxiety, depression, physical pain, emotional pain, and tools for navigating overwhelming emotions. MBCT helps create tools for a practice of living, with greater awareness and equilibrium in the wilderness of life.

Emotionally Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT, EFCT)

Significant empirical evidence underscores the effectiveness of this relationship counselling approach.

Learn More

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is my primary modality for couples counselling. I enjoy working with this model for couples work, as it tends to create a deep understanding of what is happening for each partner in a way that is non-blaming and safe for each person. I have found that this model paves a path for connection and vitality in relationship. I also supplement this model when helpful with techniques from IBP, IMAGO, John Gottman, and Esther Perel. Using these strategies and an understanding of our underlying attachment needs, I deeply enjoy working with couples.
